Daniel Phillips, a 2009 MFA recipient from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has been working in the 301 Gallery since mid-July on his new exhibition,
Tear Down These Walls. The exhibition is now open to the public through September 26th. If you stop by between now and Sept. 9th, the date of the reception (6-8 pm, all are welcome), you can meet him.
The title is apt, as the heart of the project is to tear down a wall that blocked the huge gallery space from street-side viewing. The building was originally a furniture store, and the large, modernist wall of windows invites glances inside.
Phillips records all of his DIY-style demolition and construction with a camera. He arranges thousands of stop-motion images into video that is now playing amidst the continued activity.
